Mom They Stole my Bike

There are things you remember. Especially for me the experiences with your children, which sometimes They forget but you always remember. When My daughter was about 8 her bike was stolen right out of our front yard. She had come back into the house for a drink of water and parked it by a tree. It was Christmas and a friend of mine had flown into town to see us. When she went back out to ride it. She said mom my bike is gone. I said are you sure you parked it there? She said mom, it was right here by the front door. It was a very distinctive bike, pink and purple and I put a honker toy on it, kind of like a horn on a car. I told my friend we were going to look for the bike. So we went out on the street and asked people questions. They told us they saw some children with about 5 bikes going down the street and which direction they were heading. I told my friend to get in the car and we were going to find them. So we headed that way and oddly enough we passed by a house with about 15 bikes laying in the back yard. One was my daughters because it had a honker toy on it and a little girl was wearing my daughters helmet.

I expected my friend the guy to say something. He just stood there, so I approached the child wearing my daughter's helmet and told her my daughters bike was in the back yard and she was wearing her helmet. She said no this was a Christmas present. I said yes for my daughter. I then said you give me back the helmet and we take the bike and I don't call the police. So I took the bike back to my daughter and we had Christmas dinner.

In retrospect, I took the guy with me, thinking he would stand up and take care of things, but I guess when it is your child regardless of how shy you are, maternal instincts kick in.

So in retrospect, I learned what kind of a guy he was and I hope my daughter remembers I got her bike back. So when you love someone sometimes you find strength you did not know you had. Have an amazing day if you want to.
