Getting Kicked off the Bus

When my daughter Alex was six and in Kindergarten I started getting calls from her school. First it was from the bus driver. Apparently she was threatening to beat up some little boys. After the second call, I said I will have a talk with that child, which I did. I said Alex you cant get thrown off the school bus, that is how you get to school. She said mom they were calling me names and saying bad things. She was a tiny little thing but was in gymnastics, so if Alex said she could take them, she probably could.
This was her first year in school and her Kindergarten teacher Mr. Rush then called me in, because apparently Alex liked to do stand up comedy in his classroom and he said he could not teach because it disrupted his classroom. I said I will have a talk with that child. He continued to say I had to disciple her and tell him what that discipline was. I found this entirely inappropriate. So on the way home I told Alex, I am taking away your Barbie Dream House. She said mom, you know I don't play with that. I said I know that but don't tell Mr. Rush, that is your punishment.
The next morning when I dropped Alex off at her classroom the teacher asked me what her punishment was. I told him I took away her Barbie Dreamhouse. He said good job that is excellent punishment. I am very supportive of teachers in general, but you should not squelch creativity or tell a parent how to discipline their child. If you cant handle laughter in elementary you should not be a teacher. Just my opinion. Have an amazing night if you want to.
