Footsteps in The Attic

Last night as I was trying to sleep in another insomniac moment. I was thinking about the house I used to live in. I had lived in kind of a large house that was a little scary at night and had been renting out a room to someone who had left about a week earlier, without paying the last months rent. I was actually for various reasons relieved that he was gone, one of which was coming home one day and finding him in my bedroom using my phone, which was completely off limits. I immediately put on a locking doorknob.
About a week after he left, I started hearing foot steps in my attic. It sounded like someone was walking around up there. I was in my bedroom trying to sleep. At first I was frightened and locked my bedroom door, put 911 on my speed dial. I was not going to walk about the house like the women in the really bad B movies do,
trying to find the thing making the noise. I made it through the night thinking it was probably my imagination or some house noise that I was just starting to hear.
When trying to go to sleep the second night, I heard it again, same thing locked my door but decided to talk to it this time. I named it Fred and told it, that it had to leave. I said look Fred, or whoever you are if you continue to stay in my attic You are going to pay part of my mortgage, because you cant stay up there for free and this is really starting to annoy me. You are going to have to get out.
At this point I had already concluded, I was going to call the police if this happened the following night. Oddly enough, night number three after this started there were no footsteps. Apparently Fred did not want to pay rent, even to live in the attic and telling him that, scared him enough that he left.
In retrospect I should have called the police night number one. I also found there was a garage entrance to my attic and put a more secure lock on the back door to my garage.
Again sometimes life is stranger than fiction. Have a fantastic day and I hope you never hear noises in your attic. Take care.
